A Celebration of Puerto Rico and the Americas
Bad Bunny, the world’s most-streamed artist in 2025, wowed viewers with a 14-minute Super Bowl halftime show. His performance paid tribute to his Puerto Rican roots and highlighted unity across the Americas.
The show featured guest appearances by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin, while Pedro Pascal, Cardi B, Karol G, and Jessica Alba appeared on the porch of his iconic casita. The casita, a staple of Bad Bunny’s performances, reflects a traditional Puerto Rican home.
Dancers carried flags from Central, South, and North America as Bad Bunny listed the nations aloud. A billboard read, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.” At the end, he held a football featuring the slogan, “Together, We Are America.”
Breaking Records as the First Spanish-Language Performer
At 31 years old, Bad Bunny became the first musician to perform entirely in Spanish at a Super Bowl. He did include one line in English, saying, “God bless America.” His choice marked a historic moment in a normally English-dominated broadcast.
Trump Criticizes the Performance
Despite the celebration of culture and unity, former President Donald Trump criticized the performance. He did not attend the Super Bowl but posted on Truth Social, calling the show “absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!” He added that it was “an affront to the Greatness of America” and claimed, “nobody understands a word this guy is saying.”
In response, Turning Point USA organized an alternative All-American Halftime Show, headlined by Trump-supporting singer Kid Rock.
Fans Celebrate, Critics Question
While some viewers praised Bad Bunny’s historic performance and vibrant display of Puerto Rican culture, others echoed Trump’s criticism. The show sparked widespread discussion on social media about language, culture, and inclusivity in major American events.
