Grammy-Winner Exits Amid Scrutiny
Chappell Roan, the Grammy-winning singer, announced Monday that she is leaving Casey Wasserman’s talent agency following scrutiny over Wasserman’s past ties to convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.
In an Instagram story, Roan said, “Artists deserve representation that aligns with their values and supports their safety and dignity. My decision reflects my belief that meaningful change in our industry requires accountability and leadership that earns trust.”
Wasserman Responds to Past Emails
Casey Wasserman previously expressed regret over emails he exchanged with Maxwell in 2003, which surfaced recently through the Justice Department in relation to files on Jeffrey Epstein, Maxwell’s former partner.
Wasserman stressed that he had no personal or business ties to Epstein and apologized for any perceived association. “I deeply regret my correspondence with Maxwell, which took place over two decades ago, long before her crimes came to light,” he said. “I am terribly sorry for having any association with either of them.”
The Wasserman agency has not immediately commented on Roan’s departure.
Other Artists Speak Out
Roan’s exit follows public criticism from other Wasserman-represented artists. Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast said on Instagram that she “did not consent to having my name or career tied to someone with this kind of association to exploitation.” She added, “Staying quiet isn’t something I can do in good conscience — especially in a moment when men in power are so often protected, excused, or allowed to move on without consequence.”
Ricky Montgomery and the indie pop band Water From Your Eyes also publicly condemned Wasserman, joining a growing wave of artists calling for accountability within the agency.
