Karachi: Businesses and individuals who throw trash on sidewalks and streets will face severe consequences from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
According to a Saturday report by Geo News, eateries and commercial establishments have received notices under the Sindh Local Government Act for littering in public areas.
The KMC spokeswoman stated that anyone who breaks the law by leaving trash in public places will face harsh consequences from the authorities. Offenders risk a maximum penalty of three years in prison or fines of up to 50,000 rupees.
Murtaza Wahab, the mayor of Karachi, promised that municipal inspectors would follow the law and take the required steps to resolve the matter.
He also mentioned that notifications had already been sent to three hotels for disposing of trash on walkways.
