Australia and India continued their impressive form in the Women’s T20 World Cup with commanding victories over Bangladesh and the Netherlands.
Australia delivered another all-round performance against Bangladesh at Headingley. The six-time champions chased down a modest target of 78 runs with 10.3 overs remaining, strengthening their position in the tournament.
Australian Bowlers Dominate Bangladesh
Australia’s bowlers set the foundation for victory from the very beginning. Fast bowler Kim Garth struck early and removed both Bangladesh openers. Her breakthrough left Bangladesh struggling to build momentum.
Bangladesh quickly slipped to 27 for 5 as Australia’s disciplined bowling attack maintained constant pressure. Sophie Molineux and Ellyse Perry also played key roles and claimed two wickets each.
The Bangladesh batting line-up failed to recover from the early collapse. They managed only 77 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted overs.
Georgia Voll Leads the Chase
Australia approached the run chase with confidence and aggression. Opening batter Georgia Voll produced a brilliant unbeaten innings of 45 runs from just 32 deliveries.
She played several elegant shots around the ground and entertained spectators with a powerful straight six. Her knock guided Australia to an easy victory and highlighted the team’s batting strength.
Australia comfortably reached the target and secured their second consecutive win of the competition.
Injury Concerns for Australia
Australia entered the match without opening batter Phoebe Litchfield and star all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner.
Litchfield continues to recover from injury and is expected to miss Australia’s upcoming matches against the Netherlands and Pakistan. Team management remains hopeful that she will return for the final group-stage clash against India on 28 June.
Gardner also missed the Bangladesh match because of an ankle sprain. Officials have not confirmed a return date for the experienced all-rounder.
India Continue Strong Tournament Start
India also maintained their winning momentum with a convincing victory over the Netherlands. Their latest success underlined the team’s growing confidence and strengthened their hopes of advancing deep into the tournament.
With Australia and India both performing at a high level, fans can expect an exciting battle when the two cricket powerhouses meet later in the competition.
Looking Ahead
Australia will face the Netherlands in Southampton on Saturday before taking on Pakistan at Headingley on Tuesday. India will aim to continue their winning run and build momentum as the group stage progresses.
Both teams have started the Women’s T20 World Cup in dominant fashion and remain among the strongest contenders for the title.
