Exam Cancellation Sparks Nationwide Shock
India’s medical entrance journey has been shaken after allegations of a question paper leak in the NEET UG exam held on 3 May. The National Testing Agency cancelled the test while an investigation continues. A retest date is expected soon.
Students who spent months preparing now face fresh uncertainty.
Manas Sharma, one of the candidates, said he had dedicated nearly two years to this exam. He followed a strict study routine and often studied up to 12 hours daily. After the cancellation, he said the news left him completely shocked.
He added that he expected a strong score based on unofficial answer keys shared after the exam. That score could have helped him secure admission to a top medical college.
Intense Competition for Medical Seats
NEET UG plays a key role in medical admissions across India. Every year, millions of students compete for a limited number of seats in government and private medical colleges.
Because of this pressure, many students depend on coaching centres. These centres run long classes that often extend study hours far beyond school schedules. Students spend years preparing for a single attempt.
Emotional Stress on Aspirants
The cancellation has increased stress for many candidates. Several students said they had to completely restart their preparation plans.
Sumi, a 20 year old aspirant from Assam, said she could not believe the exam was cancelled at first. She has now returned to her study routine but admitted that her focus has dropped due to stress.
Anamika, a 22 year old student from Bihar, said this was her sixth attempt. She explained that repeated preparation cycles are emotionally exhausting, especially when unexpected changes occur.
Growing Concerns Over Exam Integrity
The controversy has raised serious questions about exam security and fairness. Students now worry about how such issues can affect future attempts and admission chances.
Many aspirants feel their months of preparation have been wasted. Others are trying to adjust quickly and wait for the new exam schedule.
