At least three people lost their lives after a vehicle crashed into an elephant inside Murchison Falls National Park on Sunday evening. Authorities confirmed that four other passengers suffered injuries during the tragic accident.
According to police officials, the vehicle was carrying seven staff members from the Uganda Revenue Authority. The group was travelling from Arua to Kampala when the crash happened inside the protected wildlife area.
Emergency teams rushed the injured victims to a nearby hospital before transferring them to Kampala for further medical treatment. Officials have not yet shared details about the elephant’s condition after the collision.
Wildlife Authorities Issue Warning to Drivers
Following the incident, the Uganda Wildlife Authority advised motorists to remain alert while travelling through national parks and protected areas. Officials warned that wild animals frequently cross roads inside conservation zones, especially during the evening hours.
Road accidents remain a serious concern in Uganda. Human and wildlife encounters have also increased in recent years as growing communities continue expanding closer to protected habitats.
Authorities are now reminding drivers to reduce speed and stay cautious when travelling through wildlife parks to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
