If Rohit Sharma doesn’t play well with the bat in the next Test matches in Melbourne and Sydney, he may willingly step down as captain, according to former Indian cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar.
Australia and India are playing a five-match red-ball series, and both teams have tied the series with one victory apiece. The third Test ended in a tie this morning in Gabba, leaving two games remaining.
The next match is scheduled to begin in Melbourne on December 25.
Gavaskar stated on Tuesday on ABC Sport that he thought Rohit would not wait for the selectors to decide if his difficulties persisted.
“I think Rohit will undoubtedly be given the opportunity to play in the upcoming games.”
