LAHORE: After participating in a training program that teaches women how to operate two-wheelers in the busy eastern metropolis of Lahore, 22-year-old student Laiba Rashid expects that learning to drive a motorcycle will improve her life.
Women rarely ride motorbikes, despite the program being seven years old. It is more socially acceptable for women to ride in cars or as passengers on two-wheelers that are driven by male relatives.
On her first day of the WOW driving program, Rashid told Reuters, “I am dependent on my brother to pick me up and drop me off at college, so I hope this will change my life.”
