LAHORE: In a case pertaining to the May 9, 2023, riots, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore indicted 21 defendants on Monday, including prominent PTI officials Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Dr. Yasmin Rashid.
While hearing a case pertaining to the alleged burning of a container at Kalma Chowk on May 9 violent protests at a makeshift court in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail, Lahore ATC Judge Arshad Javed indicted the major leaders of the former ruling party and others.
During the PTI administration, Qureshi was the foreign minister. He denied any involvement in the issue.
The court then called witnesses from the prosecution and postponed the hearing until February 17.
The arrest of ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan set off the May 9 riots, which spread nearly throughout the nation.
