LAHORE: A Pakistani cyclist’s outstanding performance in the Asian Road Cycling Championship earned him six medals and sixth place, the nation’s highest-ever finish in the competition.
At the event in Thailand, Pakistani cyclists took home two gold, silver, and bronze medals apiece.
Cyclist Ali Ilyas Jawaid secured a silver medal in the Road Race (IRR) and a gold medal in the Individual Time Trial (ITT).
In the Men’s Master Open (35–39 age group), Ilyas won gold after finishing the 21.4km course in 26 minutes, 30.556 seconds, averaging 48.44 km/h. He was one minute and 14 seconds ahead of Narongdat Sangchai of Thailand, who took home the silver medal.
In the meantime, Rabia Gharib won gold in the IRR category and silver in the ITT category.
