SEOUL: DeepSeek, a Chinese artificial intelligence startup, was accused by South Korea’s data protection regulator of transferring user data and prompts without consent while the service was still accessible through the nation’s app store.
When Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Co Ltd launched in South Korea in January, it transferred user data to several Chinese and American companies without obtaining user consent, according to a statement released by the Personal Information Protection Commission on Thursday.
The data agency in South Korea banned new DeepSeek app downloads in February after DeepSeek admitted to disregarding several of the agency’s guidelines for safeguarding personal information.
