Moon Jae-in, the former president of South Korea, has been charged by prosecutors with bribery in connection with his former son-in-law’s employment at an airline.
Prosecutors contend that despite having minimal aviation expertise, his former son-in-law—who is only known by his last name, Seo—was employed in return for the CEO of the airline running a state-funded organization.
Moon, who served as the nation’s leader from 2017 to 2022, is most known for his efforts to negotiate a peace agreement with Kim Jong Un of North Korea.
He is the latest in a long line of South Korean presidents whose political careers have been tainted by scandal, ranging from suicide to assassination to incarceration.
