When Real Madrid lost to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, defender Antonio Rudiger threw an object at the referee, earning him a six-match suspension.
Shortly before the final whistle, Rudiger and Lucas Vazquez, a substitute for Real Madrid, were both sent off for an angry response to a foul against Kylian Mbappe in Seville.
“Throwing an object from the technical area, which missed me” was the reason for Rudiger’s dismissal, according to referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea’s report. Rudiger is 32 years old.
Guillem Balague, a news columnist for Sport, said that Rudiger hurled an ice cube at the external official.
