According to local media, the incident happened at a hair salon near Vaksala Square in the city center. Reports state that the shooter, who escaped on a scooter, is still at large.

A murder investigation is underway, and a sizable area has been blocked off by officers.

The event took place on the eve of the Walpurgis spring festival, which draws sizable numbers to Uppsala, a university-known city north of the capital Stockholm.

“It all occurred so quickly. A witness told Swedish channel TV4 that “it just went bang, bang, bang.”

Another man reported hearing “two bangs that sounded a bit like fireworks” outside on the street as he was cooking at home.
