CIA Director John Ratcliffe announced on Wednesday that the United States had halted information sharing with Ukraine, increasing pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to work with US President Donald Trump to arrange peace negotiations with Russia.
The suspension comes after US military help to Kyiv was halted last week, which may make it more difficult for Ukraine to defend itself against Russian missile strikes.
It highlights Trump’s readiness to play hardball with an ally as he shifts from a strong US backing for Ukraine to a more accommodative stance toward Moscow.
Trump said on Tuesday that he received a letter from Zelenskiy expressing his willingness to engage in negotiations, suggesting that the pressure was effective.
