Following New Delhi’s deadly strikes on Pakistani territory on Wednesday, long-standing tensions between nuclear-armed foes India and Pakistan skyrocketed.
Pakistan said it had started retaliating in a significant escalation between the South Asian neighbors after the missiles killed at least 26 people.
India claims Pakistan of supporting the April 22 attack, which claimed 26 lives and was the bloodiest on civilians in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in recent memory.
The charge has been denied by Islamabad. The Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border between Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and IIOJK, a heavily defended area of disputed Himalayan outposts, has since been the site of firing between the two nations.
India has ordered the border to be closed and ejected citizens in the meantime.
