After pro-Palestinian demonstrators took over a portion of Columbia University’s main library on Wednesday, New York police have arrested dozens of them.
The president of the university said in a statement that the acts of the activists were “outrageous” and that two security officers were hurt when demonstrators broke inside Butler Library on Wednesday.
Social media footage showed chanting demonstrators entering the library, many of them with masks and keffiyeh headscarves, in violation of a Trump administration restriction put in place following large-scale campus protests last year.
According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the participants’ visa statuses would be examined.
