LONDON: In appreciation of his contribution to the metropolis, His Majesty King Charles III has bestowed the knighthood upon London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
After Tuesday’s investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace, Sir Sadiq gave a touching speech in which he reflected on his journey from a Tooting council estate to becoming the first non-white Muslim of Pakistani descent to be elected Mayor of London and now a Knight of the Realm.
The investiture ceremony took place at Buckingham Palace, which is only seven miles southwest of Tooting, where Sir Sadiq grew up. He remarked, “The London promise: if you work hard and get a helping hand, you can achieve anything.”
“I never could have imagined that growing up on a Tooting council estate.”
