According to the local mayor, a suspected gunman opened fire in a school in the city of Graz in southeast Austria on Tuesday, killing at least ten people.
Mayor Elke Kahr said the Austrian press agency APA that the accused gunman, many students, and at least one adult were among the deceased.
Although school shootings are far less common in Europe than in the US, incidents at colleges and universities that were unrelated to terrorism have rocked Europe in recent years.
“A police operation is in progress right now… The police confirmed the attack in the city of Graz on X, saying that the deployment was necessary since gunshots were heard within the structure.
