Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah has warned that “funding and political support cannot be taken for granted” and has harshly criticized the federal government for what he has called persistent disregard for the province’s development demands.
Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister of Finance and Revenue, announced relief measures for the salaried class while cutting federal spending by 7% overall in his presentation of the federal budget for fiscal year 2025–2026 on Tuesday. The budget has a total outlay of Rs17.57 trillion.
Shah said in a speech in Karachi on Saturday that the dissolution of the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD) was “unjust” and detrimental to local infrastructure planning, and that the Center had gone too far.
In 2024, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered PWD to be abolished immediately due to its declining performance.
