After initially opposing requests for a statutory review, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Saturday that he will accept a recommendation for a national probe into grooming groups that sexually abused thousands of girls.
After US entrepreneur Elon Musk criticized the British government this year, the scandal—which exposed how gangs had raped, trafficked, and groomed young white girls more than ten years ago—returned to the political agenda.
In January, former senior official Louise Casey was asked by Interior Minister Yvette Cooper to conduct a “rapid audit” of the scope and character of gang-based exploitation in the United Kingdom.
It is anticipated that Casey’s investigation will state that local authorities and police “institutionally ignored” vulnerable white British girls.
