A shipwreck close to Alshab port in Tripolitania, off the coast of Libya, is thought to have killed at least five Pakistanis. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), six survivors have been retrieved from two different shipwrecks, while an additional 60 refugees and migrants are thought to be missing and may have drowned at sea.
“With dozens believed dead and entire families left in agony, IOM is once again calling on the international community to increase search and rescue efforts and ensure safe, predictable disembarkation for survivors,” said Othman Belbeisi, IOM’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). He offered his sympathies to everyone impacted, including the victims’ families.
