At the Grand Canaria, Spain Judo Cup, Jahanara Hassan, a gifted nine-and-a-half-year-old girl from Lahore who now lives in London, was the center of attention.
She produced an outstanding performance by taking home two gold medals, one in her weight class and another in a higher class, while competing against top judo clubs from Spain, Portugal, and the UK.
With the help of Mikes Judo Club and her teacher Sensei Kelly, Jahanara made news when she used her signature move, “Boom,” which is named after her athletic hero Shahid Afridi, to defeat one of Spain’s national champions.
Her accomplishment was all the more impressive because she was the only athlete at the competition to win two gold medals.
