ISLAMABAD: An earlier ruling that ordered the creation of a commission to look into claims of blasphemy has been put on hold by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The ruling by Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan last week was essentially put on hold when a division bench made up of Justices Khadim Hussain and Azam Khan issued the order on Thursday.
Advocate Rao Abdul Rahim filed an intra-court appeal against the commission’s formation decision, which resulted to the suspension.
Justice Ejaz had previously granted petitions to establish a commission to examine how blasphemy laws are handled and applied.
He had given the federal government a 30-day notice to establish the body and a 4-month deadline to finish its work.
