With no supporting proof, US President Donald Trump charged former President Barack Obama on Tuesday with “treason” for spearheading an attempt to discredit him and his 2016 campaign by falsely linking him to Russia.
The assertions made by Trump were condemned by an Obama spokesperson, who said, “These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction.”
Trump has regularly called out Obama by name, but since taking office again in January, the Republican president has not gone so far as to accuse his Democratic predecessor of committing crimes.
Trump jumped on Tulsi Gabbard, his intelligence chief, when she threatened to send Obama administration officials to the Justice Department during remarks in the Oval Office on Friday.
