ISLAMABAD: Reports that Pakistan might recognize the Taliban government in Afghanistan have been brushed aside as conjecture by Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan.
“Terrorist sanctuaries operating from Afghan soil remain a constant source of concern for Pakistan,” the spokesperson said during Thursday’s weekly press briefing.
According to Khan, discussions between the Afghan and Pakistani foreign ministries are in progress to finalize the itinerary for the visit of the Afghan foreign minister.
He went on to say that while preparations are in progress, media claims claiming that the Taliban government has been officially recognized are speculative and premature.
The deadline for returning registered Afghan refugees ended on June 30, according to the FO spokesperson.
