Six men have been arrested by Indian police for allegedly extorting “donations” from a rented office known as a “crime investigative bureau” while impersonating as cops.
According to a police statement released late Sunday, the “International Police and Crime Investigation Bureau” was based in the New Delhi satellite city of Noida and operated out of an office adorned with “police-like colors and logos.”
According to investigators, the defendants established a website where they solicited “donations” from victims and falsified certificates and documents.
Their “affiliation with Interpol” and other international crime agencies was another claim they made.
According to the police, “the perpetrators presented themselves as public servants,”
Numerous cell phones, checkbooks, identity cards, and stamp seals were found by the police.
