Kim Keon Hee, the former first lady of South Korea, was taken into custody late Tuesday on a number of allegations, including corruption and stock manipulation, according to the prosecution.
The 52-year-old was taken into custody just hours after the Seoul Central District Court considered the prosecution’ request for an arrest order.
Following the submission of an 848-page opinion by prosecutors outlining Kim’s alleged “unlawful acts,” the court approved the warrant, citing the possibility of evidence tampering.
The arrest marks the first time in South Korea’s history that a former president and first lady are both in prison.
