LAHORE: With the 2024 general elections over and the results announced, the scenario has gotten very fascinating since several lawmakers from Punjab, who have a history of switching affiliations, have also won as independents, The News reported Monday.
These independents include three members of the National Assembly (MNAs) who won the 2002 general elections on Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) tickets and joined a group called PPP-Patriot on the then-establishment’s instructions to support the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) in forming a government at the Centre.
Furthermore, some newly elected independent MNAs or members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) from Punjab were part of the PML-Q forward bloc, which supported the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) following the February 2008 elections.
