Mr. Kennedy is an independent presidential candidate who practices environmental law and is an anti-vaccine activist.
The commercial ran on Sunday right before halftime of the Super Bowl.
It featured shots of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. intercut with the original 1960 commercial.
It was backed with a jovial jingle that featured the Kennedy surname repeated fifteen times in thirty seconds.
The Super Pac American Values 2024 political action committee produced the advertisement.
Super Pacs are groups that raise money for political campaigns and contribute it to them. They cannot coordinate with campaigns, but they are free to raise and spend an infinite amount of money in support of political candidates.
According to Tony Lyons, co-founder of American Values 2024, the Super Bowl spot cost $7 million (£5.5 million). Tim Mellon is one individual who has contributed $15 million to American Values 2024 Pac. Another significant donor to Pacs that back Mr. Trump is Mr. Mellon.
A cousin of Mr. Kennedy expressed disapproval of the advertisement and the candidate’s anti-vaccine stance.
“Our uncles’ and my mother’s faces were featured in my cousin’s Super Bowl commercial. His views on health care are lethal, and she would be horrified.” President Kennedy’s sister Eunice Kennedy Shriver’s son Bobby Shriver wrote in a post regarding X. “Respect for science, vaccines, & health care equity were in her DNA.”
