While the outcome of the February 8 general elections and subsequent government formation remain undetermined, the Rawalpindi Division votes became controversial following surprising accusations by Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha of “rigging” under his watch.
In a stunning development, Chatha resigned on Saturday, citing “guilty conscience” for allowing large-scale electoral cheating in the garrison city, escalating the country’s political temperature.
The division in question consists of 13 National Assembly seats and 26 provincial seats.
