On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) heard a presidential reference filed against the ‘judicial murder’ of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
Two judicial assistants, Khalid Javed Khan and Barrister Salahuddin, finished the arguments.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa stated that the Supreme Court is required to render an opinion on the presidential reference.
There are only two questions before the judge: whether a crime was committed or not.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah enquired about the material from the court record that demonstrated that there was pressure on the judges or that the decision was taken with bias, resulting in a situation in which every case will be reopened.
Hearing on Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto reference was conducted by a 9-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa.
Judicial Assistants Khalid Javed Khan said that the trial of the case could not be reopened but the Supreme Court can definitely declare that the Bhutto case was ‘mishandled’.
