San Antonio’s Alamo City is gearing up for a lively St. Patrick’s Day celebration, which will begin with the greening of the River Walk and will include Irish-themed parades, live entertainment, vendors, and more.
According to KSAT, the annual river-dyeing ritual, which dates back to 1968, will take place on March 16 and 17, when 25 gallons of eco-friendly green dye will be dumped into the San Antonio River to commemorate the Irish celebration.
According to Visit San Antonio, eco-friendly dye will be dispersed on a barge, complete with a bagpiper for added Irish authenticity.
These efforts represent the community’s embracing of traditional celebrations and environmental awareness, albeit with a leprechaun’s wink.
In addition to the show, downtown San Antonio will host a St Patrick’s festival at the Arneson River Theatre and La Villita which will feature traditional Irish music and family-friendly activities.
