Apple’s risky move: Which iPhone models will not get iOS 18? Find out now!

Apple might delay software support for older iPhones, devices running on iOS 17 being upgraded to iOS 18

WWDC 2024, Apple’s second-largest event, is just a few months away, and as always, everyone is eager to see what the Cupertino-based tech giant has in store for the next iOS 18. More importantly, which iPhone models will receive Apple’s latest upgrade?

According to a new rumor first reported by MacRumors, Apple may delay software support for older iPhones this year, with all iOS 17 devices upgraded to iOS 18.

According to this claim, the following iPhone models are compatible with iOS 18:
iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
iPhone SE (2022)
iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro max iPhone 12 small, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
iPhone SE (2020)
iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR

What does this mean for the iPhone?
The iOS 18 update does not necessarily mean that your iPhone will receive all of the latest features. Anyway, the oldest iPhone that may receive an update is from 2018, and customers weren’t anticipating all of the latest software features.

Apple may follow in the footsteps of Samsung, OnePlus, and Google by investing more in AI advancements to introduce new features and AI functionalities.

The US tech behemoth will most certainly include AI technology from Samsung’s efforts to increase privacy, speed, and feature availability.

These are the kinds of improvements that older iPhone owners can likely scratch off their wish lists.

While Apple released its first Neural Engine (Apple’s marketing term for its NPU) with the iPhone X in 2017, the early generations lacked the capability needed to enable these modern use cases.

The potential solution is for outdated cellphones to rely on off-device processing. However, this may be a trade-off that Apple does not wish to make, and it could also be a ploy to persuade you to upgrade even if your iPhone is still officially supported.

We only have a few months before we know for sure, but the frequency and veracity of these rumors increase as the event approaches, so stick with us, and we’ll keep you updated on anything WWDC 2024-related.

In the meantime, we have to wait to find out what is certain to come. Rumors will increase as WWDC 2024 approaches.
