During the party’s spring conference in York, he stated that the care crisis requires a “long term solution” that extends beyond a single term in parliament, and hence the prime minister and Labour leader should bring their ideas “to the table.”
“Like so many big challenges, improving social care will require a different kind of politics,” stated Sir Ed.
“Because a long-term arrangement is required. One that will withstand the test of time and endure past the tenure of one parliament and one political party.
“That’s why we are calling on all parties to include in their manifestos a cast-iron commitment to finally hold cross-party talks on social care.”
Finding a solution to care has been “kicked down the road for far too long,” according to Sir Ed, who provides care for his teenage son with a disability. He claimed that individuals are forced to sell their homes and incur “catastrophic costs” just because they or their loved ones require care.
