In their Group D match of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifications in Tangerang on Wednesday, Pakistan’s women’s football team stunned higher-ranked Indonesia with a 2-0 victory.
Pakistan hasn’t won an international match since September 2023.
Nadia Khan gave Pakistan the lead early on in the eighth minute with her fifth goal for her country. In the eighteenth minute, Suha Hirani converted a penalty kick to extend the lead and give her team a dominant position.
Pakistan showed tenacity, especially in defense, despite being placed 157th by FIFA, 62 spots worse than 95th-place Indonesia. Zeeyana Jivraj, the goalie, was instrumental in keeping the clean sheet intact by stopping several Indonesian attacks. At least eight of Indonesia’s shots were on target.
