As the clock runs down to the president’s 4 July deadline, lawmakers are bringing Donald Trump’s enormous tax and spending budget measure back to the US House of Representatives so that he can sign it into law.
The Senate, the upper house of Congress, barely approved the law on Tuesday. After more than twenty-four hours of discussion and opposition from certain Republican senators, Vice-President JD Vance delivered a vote that broke the tie.
Passing the bill through the House, where Speaker Mike Johnson plans to schedule a vote as early as Wednesday, could prove to be just as difficult for Trump’s supporters.
An earlier version of the bill was adopted by the lower chamber in May by a single vote.
