When playing the Valerie singer in the upcoming movie Back to Black, which is named after the artist’s well-known album and song, the 27-year-old Brighton actor claimed that feeling “frailer and smaller” gave her an advantage.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Abela revealed, “I was being monitored, and I had help to do it safely; I consulted a dietician.”
“Feeling frailer and smaller helped – I hadn’t understood, before, how much that affects your tempo.”
“During her Frank era [her debut album released in 2003], Amy is fast and loud and boisterous with her arms, her movements are big,” she stated.
“I realized that you can’t physically perform those same actions after I started to transform.
“Sitting is uncomfortable. You’re more vulnerable, hungry, and exhausted.”
Winehouse, who battled a drug addiction and bulimia in public, passed away in July 2011 at the age of 27 from alcohol poisoning at her Camden, North London, residence.
Given that they both grew up in Jewish homes, Abela claimed to have connected with the Grammy-winning singer during the filming process.
