On Wednesday, the Georgia judge overseeing the 2020 election meddling case against the former president said that Trump and his associates could file an appeal against the ruling that upheld the disqualification of the troubled Fulton County District Attorney Fani Wills.
Trump and eight co-defendants are now able to request an appeal of the decision thanks to a certificate of prompt review that Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee issued on Wednesday.
The Georgia Court of Appeals was given an order on March 15 and will now have 45 days to decide whether to hear the case. The defense has 10 days to file an application. The Georgia Court of Appeals is not compelled to hear the matter by Georgia law.
The former president’s lead attorney, Steve Sadow, declared in a statement on Wednesday that the judge’s ruling is “extremely significant.” “The defense is optimistic that appellate review will lead to the case being dismissed and the being disqualified,” Sadow stated. In addition, Judge McAfee stated that he will continue to consider other pre-trial motions in the case even while the defense attempts to have Willis disqualified.
