Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida issued a warning to Haitians who were fleeing to South Florida from the gang-controlled country that they might be transported to Martha’s Vineyard, an island.
“We have a transportation program as well, and it will be running,” DeSantis stated on Dana Loesch’s show on Tuesday.
“Haitians land in the Florida Keys – their next stop very well may be Martha’s Vineyard.”
About 850 miles separate Florida from Haiti, and during the country’s crisis, a large number of migrants have been arriving in the Sunshine State by boat.
In view of the upheaval in Haiti and the possibility of an uptick in migration from the conflict-ridden country via the sea, the Republican governor declared last week that more troops and aircraft would be stationed along Florida’s coast.
According to Ron Desantis, he intervened to make sure the accused immigrant, who is illegal, was returned to custody.
“The issue in a situation like Florida is that you need permission to be able to fly someone back to Haiti, for example, if they have connections in our state. The federal government will advise the host countries not to take our flights, so it gets a little bit harder to transport someone to a South American country, wherever they may be from, DeSantis added.
