The Olympian, 37, said he had “effectively [given himself] a C-section” after rupturing his abdominal muscles while slipping between Colin Grafton and Brendyn Hatfield’s legs.
On Instagram, Mr. Rutherford announced that his “horribly painful” injury would be operated on “today” (March 21).
As he strolled through the woods with his dogs and partner Susie Verrill, 35, he remarked, “I’ve been a bit busy and obviously just recovering from the initial injury before I had the surgery that I hadn’t got round to really talking about it.”
“To cut a long tale short, I herniated and tore all of my abdominal muscles when I sprang through Brendyn and Colin’s legs. Thus, I performed a C-section on myself in effect.”
In addition, Rutherford, who entered the final as the second-choice, showed the crowd what happened when he was hurt on the rink.
