The nine-year prison sentence for the former Manchester City player will begin this week when a court ruling approves the transfer of the sentence from Italy.
As a consequence of his 2017 rape conviction in Italy, a Brazilian high court decided on Wednesday that Robinho must serve his sentence in his native country.
The verdict of the former striker for Real Madrid, Manchester City, and AC Milan was upheld by judges in Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice in the nation’s capital city of Brasilia, voting 9–2.
Due to his involvement in a group sexual assault that occurred in 2013 while he was a player for AC Milan, Robinho was given a nine-year prison sentence in Italy.
Because Brazil does not extradite its citizens, Italy requested that he be imprisoned in his country.
The Brazilian court solely addressed whether the Italian punishment was upholdable in Brazil, refusing to revisit the rape conviction.
