In a constitutional plea submitted to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, Mian Dawood Advocate sought an open court investigation into a letter that six Islamabad High Court judges had written to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) regarding alleged espionage agency meddling in the judiciary.
The letter, which was drafted on Tuesday a day earlier, urged the council to call a judicial convention in response to claims that members of the executive branch, particularly intelligence agency agents, were meddling in judicial matters.
The counsel has asked the supreme court to establish an authorized panel and launch an investigation in his appeal.
He referred to the judges’ letter as a “premeditated plan”.Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Justice Saman Fafat Imtiaz are among the IHC judges that penned the letter to the SJC.
The judge wrote a request for guidance from the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) regarding the “interference” of spy agencies in court matters. The judge asked for guidance on a judge’s obligation to report and address actions taken by executive branch employees, including intelligence agency operatives, that aim to impede the judge’s ability to perform their official duties and may be considered intimidation.
