Senior attorneys and bar groups from Sindh, Lahore, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday called for an investigation into the letter that six judges of the Islamabad High Court wrote to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) alleging that espionage agencies were interfering with the legal system.
During an urgent meeting today, the Sindh High Court Bar Association went over the letter that the IHC judges had written.
The Supreme Court justices will be on the three-member judicial panel that the SHCBA has recommended be formed in order to look into the letter.
The Supreme Court Bar Association expressed worry about the “interference” and declared, “Interference in the affairs of the judiciary is tantamount to attacking the judicial system.”
The lawyer’s group also praised the IHC judges, calling their revelation of the intervention an admirable deed.
Islamabad Bar denounces meddling
Concern was also voiced by the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, which declared that it completely supports the judiciary’s independence and autonomy as the primary component of the Constitution.
According to the bar, “public confidence in the justice system is linked to the independence and autonomy of the judiciary,” and it is detrimental to both society and the justice system when the judiciary is under suspicion.
The organization declared in a statement that it supports autonomy, judicial independence, and the rule of law.
The bar required guarantees that the judges would be able to carry out their responsibilities while upholding the independence and autonomy of the judiciary as stipulated in the constitution.
