The vocalist of Years and Years shared the statement on the news, along with signatures from Bambie Thug from Ireland, Windows95Man from Finland, Gate from Norway, Iolanda from Portugal, Megara from San Marino, Nemo from Switzerland, SABA from Denmark, and Silvester Belt from Lithuania.
“It is our duty to create and uphold this space, with a strong hope that it will inspire greater compassion and empathy,” the artists stated in their letter.
It follows Alexander, 33, having previously signed an open letter from Voices4London, an LGBTQ+ activist group, urging Israel to permit relief and calling for a truce in Gaza.
The letter referred to Israel as a “apartheid state” and accused it of genocide.
Because of the war, pressure was applied on European broadcasters to abstain from Israel’s participation in this year’s competition.
