Senior commander of the elite Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Mohammad Reza Zahedi, perished in the explosion that demolished the Iranian embassy building in Damascus, the capital of Syria.
Both the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the IRGC accused Israel of carrying out the attack, calling it a “brutal” and “abhorrent” one.
Hossein Akbari, the Iranian ambassador to Damascus, assured that the Iranian retaliation will be “harsh” despite not being hurt in the hit.
Regarding the incident, Israel remained silent. A request for comment was also not immediately answered by the White House.
The US informed Iran that it “had no involvement” in or advanced knowledge of an Israeli strike on a diplomatic facility in Syria, according to a news report by Axios, which quoted an American official.
