Speaking to the media about the POL price increase, Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja Ur Rehman stated that while the government is working to keep prices as low as possible, the cost of petroleum products has increased dramatically on a worldwide scale.
He argued that the people who would gain more from a price decrease on roti would not be as affected by a price spike, stating that “the number of people who use petrol is very less than those who eat roti.”
“Roti’s price has dropped by four rupees. The price of roti will drop much further this month with the introduction of the fresh wheat crop. The Punjab Finance Minister stated, “Tandoor owners are making profit despite raising the price of bread to Rs16.”Punjab has set the wheat minimum support price (MSP) at Rs. 3900 per maund, and those who inflate prices will face consequences.
