Former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak is pushing to join the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and has met with the party’s Nowshera chapter in this respect after his newly established political party was humiliated in the general elections, according to The News on Tuesday.
Despite stepping down from politics following his humiliating defeat in the February 8 election, Khattak was reportedly considering joining the PPP, according to sources close to him who spoke with the publication.
In the polls, the former KP chief minister, his two sons, and a son-in-law were defeated, and his party managed to win only two seats in the province parliament.
Following his defeat, Khattak severed ties with his employees and backers and entered a state of political hibernation.
But the previous minister of defense has stepped up and even sought out to his supporters during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
According to The News, Khattak had approached senior leadership of the PPP, including Raja Pervez Ashraf, Syed Khursheed Shah and others, to join the party. However, Khattak was told that his joining PPP would be subject to the party’s local chapter agreeing to his inclusion.
