As a result of their “unparliamentary gestures,” two lawmakers from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamshed Ahmad Khan Dasti and Muhammad Iqbal Khan, were suspended from the National Assembly (NA) on Friday by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq for the current session for using derogatory language during President Asif Ali Zardari’s speech.
Following the February 8 national elections, President Zardari spoke at the first joint session of parliament yesterday. During his speech, the PTI-SIC members mounted a loud protest and caused a commotion, emphasizing the importance of political reconciliation.
The NA speaker’s motion to suspend the two members was approved by the lower house of parliament today.
Speaker Sadiq read the motion, which claimed that both MNAs had used “abusive language” and had approached the speaker’s dais in a “threatening manner,” all of which were “unacceptable” behaviors.
