While the Conservatives criticize “unfunded nationalisation,” Labour offers publicly owned rail.

By establishing the long-delayed Great British Railways (GBR) organisation and returning routes to public ownership, Labour will pledge to bring about the largest shake-up to rail "in a generation".

Shadow transport secretary Louise Haigh will make the announcement on Thursday. She will also promise to implement automatic “delay repay” programs, create a “best-price ticket guarantee” for travelers, and make digital season tickets available on the network.
After a study of the railways, GBR was initially proposed in 2021 with the intention of streamlining the franchise system and increasing passenger volume, which had dropped sharply during the epidemic.

The planned public organization pledged to take over Network Rail’s ticketing, schedules, network planning, and rail and station responsibilities.

However, even though Boris Johnson and his ministers supported it, the organization has yet to be established and has experienced ongoing delays in its development.
